Labour TD for Cork South West, Michael McCarthy has welcomed news that plans to build the new state-of-the-art swimming pool in Dunmanway are now at an advanced stage.
In welcoming this further progress Deputy McCarthy stated that “The project will go to tender in March with the aim that a contractor will be in place by June. It is hoped that the new state-of-the-art facility will be completed by December 2015, which is very good news.”
“As the local TD for the area I am delighted that the project is going ahead. This will see the culmination of many years of hard work on my behalf and of the community of Dunmanway.
“Having been involved in the long-running campaign to improve leisure facilities in the town I have lobbied at the highest levels of government to ensure funding for this project. Government support has been crucial to the success of this development. The Department of Transport, Tourism and Sport have ring-fencing approximately €3.8 million for the pool with the new building expected to use eco-friendly design and incorporate a 25 meter pool with associated leisure facilities. I look forward to liaising further with Cork County Council on this.
“The swimming pool is very important to the people of Dunmanway. It is a valuable asset to the town of Dunmanway and the hinterland as well as the entire area of west Cork. There is no doubt that this development will provide a huge boost for our local community as well as a huge attraction to the town and I will continue to give this project my full focus.”
