Cork City Council is sitting on more than 500 empty council houses or
flats, while almost 8000 thousand people are on a waiting list looking for
accomodation.
As of January 30th the Council owned 512 vacant properties, but the local
authority doesn’t have the money to perform some repairs to the houses, and
so cannot release them for use.
The news comes as the Cork City Council backed down for on a controversial
plan to privatise vacant properties, that follows a vote for industrial
action by IMPACT members in the councils’ housing department.

Austerity Alliance” was at last nights meeting of the housing commitee
