Dr. Martin Collins completed his PhD in what was then the Department of Zoology at UCC from 1990 to 1994 he has been awarded an OBE in the 2014 New Year’s Honours List in the UK.
It is in recognition of his “services to science and conservation in South Georgia and the South Sandwich Islands (located in the South Atlantic they a British Overseas Territory previously administered jointly with the Falkland Islands)
Dr. Martin Collins is currently the Chief Executive of the South Georgia Government and its Director of Fisheries.
After completing his PhD in Cork, Martin lectured in Scotland for a while before joining his current employers.
