Cork City manager John Caulfield has confirmed the appointment of John Dunleavy as Cork City captain for the 2014 season.
Discussing the appointment, Caulfield explained that he believes Dunleavy’s personality is ideally suited to the role: “He is a fantastic leader, he has a great attitude and he has a presence about him. Even though he is young, he has an air of authority about him; he is a very good talker and a good organiser.”
“He has mixed very well within the club, and also with the supporters since he arrived at the club. He reminds me a bit of Declan Daly when I was playing. He has similar qualities and I think he will be a great captain for us.”
The new City captain said it was a privilege to take on the captaincy of the club: “It is a massive honour and a real privilege for me. I’ve really enjoyed my time at the club. A lot of fantastic players have captained this club in the past, and I hope to carry on that tradition.”
