Following the announcement by Bus Éireann that late night bus services
are to be provided to certain areas of county Cork, Bandon town Cllr
Gillian Coughlan has called for the service to be extended into West
Cork.
Cllr Coughlan commented: “While the establishment of a late night bus
service to towns like Ballincollig, Carrigaline and Midleton over
Christmas is welcome, this service should be extended to people living
to the South and West of the city.
“A considerable number of people from Bandon, Innishannon and Kinsale
commute to the city every day for work and university and many may be
spending more time in the city over the festive season.
“They should be entitled to a cost-efficient, safe, reliable late
night service to transport them to their towns, just like those from
Carrigaline, Ballincollig and Midleton enjoy.
“A taxi from Cork City to Bandon can cost up to €50, while a bus to
Midleton costs €8. I hope Cork County Council officials can apply the
same logic to West Cork and establish a similar service for the area.
“Should this service be instated, with adequate publicity, there is no
doubt that this service be an invaluable one for the people of Bandon,
Innishannon and Kinsale.”
