Last night was the final budget meeting for three veteran Councillors
who will not run in the local elections of next year.
Jim Corr and Brian Bermingham from Fine Gael, and Michael Aherne of Labour.
will all step down in June.
We spoke with Jim Corr after last nights meeting…
The 79 year old Douglas man is the longest serving City Councillor,
With 40 years experience he is known as “The Father of the House”
Jim was co-opted on Cork Corporation in May 1973 to replace Peter Barry,
and was elected under his own name at subsequent elections,
he was also a TD for a short period in 1982
Jim is the only Councillor in the modern era to have served as Lord Mayor twice,
first in 1979 and again in 1996.
