Drinking of water that is! Phil Hogan, The Minister for the Environment, and Local Government has announced that he has approved the necessary funding to allow Cork County Council award the €0.61m contract to provide a new reservoir and upgraded distribution system to serve Conna Village from the existing Regional Water Supply Scheme. The contract is being funded under the Department’s Water Services Investment Programme 2010 – 2013.
The water supply to Conna Village has traditionally been provided by local boreholes pumping in to a small reservoir with limited storage which resulted in disruption of supply.
Under the Conna Regional Water Supply Scheme Phase 1 (Reservoir), Cork County Council propose to provide a new reservoir and upgraded distribution system to serve Conna Village from the existing Regional Water Supply Scheme. The Minister said that “The works, I am approving today, when completed will provide good quality drinking water and security of supply for Conna.”
“Given the importance of the scheme locally, I will be asking Cork County Council to complete the contract formalities with the successful tenderer and start work on the contract at the earliest possible date.” the Minister concluded.
