Melissa Mullane this week took her seact on Mallow Town Council having being co-opted by Sinn Fein onto the seat vacated by Willie O Reagan.Cllr Mullane a long serving Dairygold employee is well known in political and community circles having been chosen recently to contest the county council elections for Sinn Fein in the Mallow/Kanturk area.
After the meeting she stated;
“I am delighted to get this opportunity to represent Sinn Fein and the citizens of Mallow in the town council and I intend to work hard and concentrate on the issues we have heard during a canvass through out the area over the summer.The shortage of social housing is a major problem.The access to a house for all needs to be a priority both locally and nationally.”
She added;
“The imminent folding of the town council and the amalgamation with the County Council is also a major concern to the people of Mallow and we as local councillors need to insure that Mallow does not suffer because of the changes. Commercial rates,housing supply and general road and footpath upkeep and repair for the Mallow area need to be protected.To this moment the Department have gave no indication of how the take over is going to proceed and with only 7 months to local elections this is a major concern for me.All in all it is a new experience I intend to enjoy it while doing my best for those who have given me the opportunity.”
