A new “app” to improve safety at sea
has been launched by Marine Minister Simon Coveney.
Called “I-S-A- SafeTrx” it was developed with the Irish Coast Guard,
and is similar to a “an aviation flight-plan, but for the water”
The app allows boat users to log planned voyages from their Smartphone
before setting out. It means if a boat goes missing the coast guard
will have some idea of it’s heading, so search and rescue times would
be reduced.
Minister Simon Coveney says the app is not a replacement for marine radio,
but it is another valuable tool for the emergency services
