Golden Discs will open the doors to its new flagship store in the iconic
5,000 square foot building on Patrick Street (in the Old HMV shop)
The new branch, which will be the biggest of the 15 Golden Discs stores in
Ireland, has created 18 full time jobs. Managing Director Stephen
Fitzgerald said today “Our Cork stores have always been strong performers
often beating the rest of the country. The building is synonymous with
entertainment having been a music store for the past 24 years and a cinema
before that. We are really excited about continuing that legacy and
offering Cork city an extensive range of entertainment products at really
compelling prices.”
There will be plenty of discounts and goodies available at the opening
launch on Friday so staff are encouraging music and film lovers to pop in
to check out the refurbished space. Store Manager David O’Donovan from Cork
said “Music plays a major role in Cork’s culture so we are delighted to be
opening in such a large space. We will have an extensive range of music and
movie genres available to suit all tastes.”
Golden Discs in Patrick Street will be the third new branch for the Irish
chain this year. A store in Pavilions Swords opened in April whilst another
opened in Blanchardstown in May. The company celebrated 50 years in
business last year and currently employs over 100 people in Ireland. Golden
Discs also intends to upgrade its on-line download store and offer physical
CD and DVD sales through its website before the year-end.
