Cork County Council has begun to suspend people from its waiting list for
social housing after nearly half of the homes it offered last year were
turned down.****

Up to 347 offers were made, but 164 homes were rejected for reasons
including that a house was built on a hill which could be slippy in winter;
because there was no playroom; and because a kitchen was not spacious
enough for an large American-style fridge.****

The figures emerged in a weekend newspaper.****
and today politicians have been reacting to the figures****
