Sinn Féin in Carrigaline will be hosting an information and campaign
meeting on the new Family Home Tax in the Heron Room of the Carrigaline
Court Hotel, next Monday the 11th at 7.30.
The meeting is being hosted by the Sinn Féin Local Representative,
Donnchadh Ó Laoghaire, as well as Sinn Féin TD Jonathan O’Brien.
According to Mr Ó Laoghaire, the meeting will provide information on how
the Tax will be raised and how properties will be valued, as well as
outlining Sinn Féin’s opposition to the tax.
“We are very much opposed to the iniquitous tax on the Family Home, and are
concerned that many families already struggling to cope will be put to the
pin of their collars by this iniquitous and regressive tax.”
“Perhaps one in every four mortgages is in distress, and in recent weeks we
have seen that some 70,000 homeowners heard that the AIB will be increasing
its variable mortgage interest rates. To add an additional cost to these
families is utterly unfair, particularly when there are alternatives.”
“Sinn Féin outlined in its alternative budget proposals an alternative
wealth tax which could bring in more revenue than the Family Home tax,
without once again putting more pressure on the 1.6m people who have only
€50 a month after essential bills.”
“All are welcome, and we will attempt to answer any questions people have
relating to the tax as well as outlining our opposition to the tax.”
