BASKETBALL: Mark Scannell, the Head Coach of Cork’s “Bord Gáis Neptune” team has been named the “Philips Sports Manager” of the month for January. Having beaten “UCC Demons” in a local derby semi-final, Neptune faced the experienced UL Eagles in the National Basketball Finals. Eagles were the favourites, but supported by a large crowd who travelled from Cork, Neptune ran out 85-65 winners to land their first National Cup in 21 years.
