Fears that Cobh’s Garda Station might be downgraded have been dismissed by senior Gardai. The station in Cobh is currently the headquarters for policing in Cobh, Glanmire, Watergrasshill, and Carrignavar, But in the coming months as part of restructuring Cobh “Garda district” will cease to exist Cobh will then come under the control of Midleton station, and Glanmire will come under the umbrella of Mayfield. Cobh will lose its Super-Intendent and Inspector, and there were fears that Cobh’s opening hours might be reduced. However at a meeting of the County Cork Joint Policing Committee yesterday senior Gardai said the opposite is the case, and infact there will now be more Gardai patrolling Cobh because they won’t be called “off-Island” as much as before Cork East Fine Gael TD David Stanton was one of the politicians at the meeting.
