Labour TD for Cork South-West Michael McCarthy has welcomed news that Skibbereen and Ballinsacarthy are among the areas in Cork which will receive funding under the 2013 national road allocations. “I can confirm that the N71 between Skibbereen and Newcourt is set to receive €55,000, while some €400,000 is being allocated to pavement strengthening works in Ballinascarthy. This is substantial funding which will hopefully go a long way towards the development and upkeep of the road network in both areas. Some €8.9 million overall has been allocated to Cork County Council under this latest tranche of funding from the National Roads Authority. I am pleased that West Cork has been recognised yet again this year and I will continue to work with the Department of Transport, the NRA and the Council to improve the roads situation in the region over the course of 2013.”
