Cork South Central Fine Gael TD Jerry Buttimer has paid tribute to former councillor Dan Morrissey and has extended his sympathy to his family. Mr Morrissey passed away on 16 January at Mercy University Hospital. “Dan was a great community activist, involved in so many aspects of life in Ballyphehane. He was a genuine and considerate man who fully understood the importance of community and he spent much of his life working to help others. Whether it was as a city councillor, with Kilreen Celtic FC or with the Ballyphehane Pipe Band he did everything he could to help his local community. “His wide range of interests kept him involved in so many parts of civic life in Cork, from community organisations to sport and politics. Each time he was involved he gave it everything and inevitably he was a success. This was evident from the positions he held; a former President of the League of Ireland, honorary life president of Kilreen Celtic and treasurer of Ballyphehane Pipe Band. “Dan has left a great legacy of which his family can be very proud. I extend my deepest sympathies to his wife Kathleen and their family. At this sad time for them I hope that they find comfort in the enormous contribution Dan made to his community and support from his very wide circle of friends.”
