People in Cork love the “National media”. Why get excited about being on local Radio or TV when you could be “National” Well TV3 (a National station) has a “fun-filled and action-packed travel series”, ‘The Holiday Show Ireland’ and it stops off in Co. Cork on Friday, 18th January, 2013 at 8pm. Presenters Ciara Whelan and Jon Slattery are up to their usual antics as they visit Cork as part of the show’s ultimate road trip around one of their favourite countries – Ireland! Cork County Council sponsored the Cork episode under it’s Economic Development Fund to showcase the best that Co Cork has to offer the tourist. The first pit-stop in Co. Cork is Youghal, where Jon takes a heritage trail walking tour with Sir Walter Raleigh, who is said to have planted the first potatoes in Ireland, while Ciara goes angling for mackerel on Youghal Pier, all washed down with a visit to the Jameson Distillery in Midleton. Then it’s off to visit Spike Island, followed by a rare behind the scenes look at Fota Wildlife Park by head keeper Willie Duffy. In Kinsale, it’s time to ‘Dine Around’ town with the Good Food Circle, taking in the best places to eat and drink. No foodie tour of Co. Cork would be complete without a visit to the home of Ireland’s much-loved breakfast staple, Clonakility Black Pudding. And, not that they need any help, but Ciara and Jon also drop in on the Blarney Stone, the legendary Stone of Eloquence made famous by the thousands that kissed it in the hope of never being lost for words again! Then it’s off to forage seaweed on kayaks, visit Mizen Head, one of the most extreme points of the island of Ireland, take a cable car to Dursey Island and get wet and wild with Blackwater Outdoor Activities. The Holiday Show on Friday, 18th January, 2013 on TV3 at 8pm. (repeated on TV3 on Sunday at 5.50pm)
