RTÉ Sport’s commentator and presenter/reporter, Marty Morrissey, has been appointed to the position of RTÉ’s Gaelic Games correspondent. The Cork resident joined the RTÉ Sports Department in 1994, specialising in all matters GAA. Throughout the years, Marty has commentated and reported on many sports as well as presenting numerous programmes. He has worked on some of RTÉ Sport’s biggest productions including the Olympics, Pro-Box Live and, of course, RTÉ’s flagship GAA programming. He has also presented Countrywide and The Mooney show on RTÉ Radio 1. Marty was born in Mallow, County Cork. Shortly afterwards the family returned to their home in the Bronx, New York. They remained there until Marty was eleven before returning home to live in County Clare. Marty studied at University College Cork and taught for four years at St. Joseph’s Secondary School, Spanish Point, before graduating with an Honours Masters Degree in Education (M.Ed) from NUIG with his thesis on “The Evolution of Broadcasting in Ireland, including a Study of Educational Services”. Marty joined the now defunct local TV station Cork Multi-Channel in 1988. Shortly after that, he moved to London to work for WH Smith’s Lifestyle Channel. The following year he joined Clare FM as News Editor and in 1990 returned to Cork to work in RTÉ’s then local radio service.
