Management at MSD in Brinny, Co. Cork, today (Wednesday, 3rd October) briefed employees about workforce reductions that will take place at the plant. The notice to employees marks the beginning of a consultation process that could result in a reduction of 90 positions over the coming six months.
Today’s announcement is part of MSD’s ongoing efforts to balance product demand within its global supply chain and manufacturing network. The company has determined there is sufficient inventory available for product manufactured at the site to meet both current and near-term demand.
Matt Corcoran, Site Manager, commented: “This is extremely challenging news for all of us at the site to absorb. We have committed substantial resources to investigate all elements of our business operations to identify potential cost savings, but reducing workforce was necessary and sadly unavoidable for the site to stay competitive. Our immediate priority now is to work with and support all our employees during the consultation process.”
MSD has in recent years transformed Brinny through cost efficiencies, leaner operations and new capital investments. Everybody on site has played an active part in working to make the site competitive within the company’s integrated global manufacturing network.
MSD’s site in Brinny, Co. Cork is an Active Pharmaceutical Ingredient (API) and sterile manufacturing centre of expertise. Established in 1980, 455 people are currently employed at the site. The products made at Brinny have approvals in over ninety markets worldwide.
