On Monday (December 5th) at 12.00 noon at his office in City Hall Cork, the Lord Mayor of Cork Cllr Terry Shannon will announce details of the upcoming visit to China of a business and tourism delegation from Cork.
The purpose of the visit is to complete an agreement with Shenzhen Tourism Association regarding the promotion of Cork as a tourism destination and to attend the Confucius Institute Conference in Beijing where he will meet Chinese Government Ministers and senior officials regarding future co-operation projects. He will also sign a cooperation agreement with the Wuxi Municipal People’s Government. Wuxi is a city of 8 million people one hour west of Shanghai. He will also meet Chinese companies and Cork companies operating in China.
The Lord Mayor will be accompanied on the visit by Mr. Tim Lucey, Cork City Manager; Dr. Michael Murphy, President of UCC, Mr. Gerard O’Mahoney, Past President of Cork Chamber; Mr. Finbarr Corkery, Managing Director, Macau Sporting Club; Prof Fan Hong, Head of School of Asian Studies, UCC, Mr. Finbarr Corkery Snr., CEO, Macau Sporting Club and Mr. George Barter, Managing Director, J. Barter Travel Group.
He will return to Cork on December 16th 2011.
