Statement from Kathleen Lynch follows:
I would like to pay tribute to Deputy Bernard Allen who today announced that he will not be seeking re-election.
Bernard has been one of the most hardworking constituency politicians in the Dail, and I have always found him to be kind, courteous and polite.
His tenure as Minister for Sport was marked by unprecedented investment in badly-needed sports and leisure facilities on the Northside of Cork.
Bernard has always had a great understanding of the problems of the area, and has been regarded with great affection by the people of Cork North Central. Without doubt, he will be sadly missed.
I would like to extend my sincere best wishes to him and his family and hope that he enjoys a long and happy retirement.
