Lord Mayor praises contribution made by Deputy Bernard Allen on the announcement of his retirement from public office
The Lord Mayor of Cork, Cllr. Michael O’ Connell today (Wednesday 18th January) praised the contribution made by Deputy Bernard Allen ( F.G.) who announced his intention not to seek re-election in the forthcoming General Election.
“In a long and distinguished political career Bernard Allen delivered on the local and national stage for the people of Cork and of the country as a whole. He was a popular former Lord Mayor of the city and a tireless advocate for the people of Cork North Central.
As Minister for Sport he delivered much needed resources to sporting organisations across many codes. His work in recent times as Chair of the Public Accounts Committee has been as energetic and committed as anything he has undertaken in his political career and his absence will be sorely felt on the local and national stage”.
