Statement from FIne Gael Cllr. Noel O Connor MTC MCC re passing of Estmates for2011 in Mallow Town Council last night 3rd Jan.
” The big news from Mallow Town Council’s Estimates Meeting last night was that for the Rate payers of Mallow there will be a reduction of rates from last year by 2%. As councillors we individually and collectively been lobbied by the business people of the town to do something to help them in this difficult time commercially in our country. tonight was remarkable in that the councillors voted unanimously to strike a rate of 57.88 euros which is 2% less than last year.
In the managers report it was indicated that the expected expenditure for the Council would be 3.9million euros. New plans had been submitted to the Dept. of the Environment for the construction of 9 appartments in the Willis Court area. The pilot phase of the refurbishment work at Sandfield Estate will be complete in March. And the tender process for the construction of the new Public Toilet Facility at St. James Avenue will commence early this year.
I am glad to say that Mallow Town Council has decided that this year there will be a crackdown on those owners of property not complying with Derelict Sites legislation. Once again money has been set aside in the estimates for contributios to local committees under the Arts Grants and support will also be available to residents associations though the Rapid programme and also through the Tidy Estates Competion”
It was great that the management were able to put together , in such harse an economic climate a balanced budget while reducing the rates by 2%.
